You can start therapy for many different reasons. You may be struggling with depression, anxiety, anger, or grief. You might want to make changes in your life and need support to make them happen. Therapy can help you develop coping skills, navigate transitions, work on relationships, or recover from trauma. And you might start therapy simply to learn more about yourself so you can live the best and healthiest life possible.
Between sessions, you might be asked to try journaling, to practice new behaviors, or to do other types of homework. These exercises are designed with the eventual goal of helping you bring what you learn in the therapy session into your everyday life.
You will get the most out of your therapy if you actively participate. Making change is difficult, but your therapist is there to guide you, and if you fully engage in the process, you will get a lot more out of it. When you start therapy, you should be ready to take responsibility for your life and invest in your mental health.
Everyone can benefit from therapy. Working with a therapist doesn't mean that you are bad at handling your own problems; it means you see the value in seeking support. Investing in your mental health is a sign of personal strength, and you should be proud of yourself for actively participating in your own wellness journey.
Therapy can help you acquire new skills, learn how to solve problems, get an objective perspective on your life, develop new and positive behaviors, and improve your self-esteem and communication. These are all positive things, no matter how you think you are doing.
Therapists are ethically bound to maintain absolute confidentiality. Everything said in session, and all information provided will be kept confidential. There are only a few very specific circumstances where this is not the case, and this is only when it concerns the safety of yourself and others.

We do not prescribe medication. That is something you will discuss and coordinate with your primary care doctor or psychiatrist.
